The Sound of Music (Lyric Video and Piano Cover by JellSoL)
This piece, the theme song of a classic musical (The Sound of Music), is the first piece I committed to memory. I still remember how it took me several months to learn it and be able to play the whole piece. Reading notes was a challenge back then. The movie is one of the first that I watched as a child and has been one of my favorites. Several years later, living by myself in a small studio, I was reminded of this reflective song. Loneliness certainly brings its twin (reminiscence) most of the time. It was my cousin’s (my big brother) birthday and I thought of the old days when we were with our piano teacher. I thought he was as lonely to be away from his family as I was away from mine. That moment was this video. For duplication plans, I included the lyrics below.
The hills are alive with the sound of music
With songs they have sung for a thousand years.
The hills fill my heart with the sound of music.
My heart wants to sing every song it hears.
My heart wants to beat like the wings of the birds
That rise from the lake to the trees.
My heart wants to sigh like a chime that flies
From a church on a breeze;
To laugh like a brook when it trips and falls
Over stones on its way,
To sing through the night
Like a lark who is learning to pray.
I go to the hills
When my heart is lonely.
I know I will hear
What I’ve heard before.
My heart will be blessed
With the sound of music
And I’ll sing once more.
Becoming a classic now, you might also like my rendition of Broken Vow.
